Standing seam is the most premium metal roofing system available. Unlike exposed fastener panels, standing seam uses a concealed clip system — no screws penetrate the metal surface. The result is a clean, uninterrupted roofline with no exposed fasteners that can loosen, rust, or leak over time.
The raised seams that give the system its name interlock mechanically, creating a watertight barrier that expands and contracts with Ontario's temperature swings without compromising the seal. Properly installed, a standing seam roof will outlast the building it protects.
It's the system we're most proud to install — and the one we hold to the highest standard. Every standing seam project gets our full attention, our best materials, and our strongest warranty offering. Our recommended installation approach — full tear-off with ice and water shield — applies to all our roofing systems, not just standing seam.
Every fastener is concealed beneath the panel. No screws to back out, no neoprene washers to deteriorate, no penetrations to leak. The system is as weathertight at year 40 as it was on day one.
Metal expands and contracts significantly with Ontario's temperature range. Standing seam panels float on concealed clips, allowing free thermal movement without stressing fasteners or cracking sealants — a common failure point on lesser systems.
A properly installed standing seam roof with quality steel is a once-in-a-lifetime investment. When you factor in zero maintenance costs, no re-roofing cycles, and improved energy performance, the long-term economics are compelling.
The uninterrupted panel lines and crisp seam profiles give standing seam an architectural quality that no other roofing material can match. Available in a wide range of profiles and colours to complement any property style.
The smooth, hard surface sheds snow naturally. Combined with proper ventilation and — where installed — ice and water shield underlayment, standing seam is the best performing roof you can put on a Canadian property.
We use premium steel panels backed by a manufacturer's 40-year paint warranty. The finish won't fade, chalk, or peel — your roof will look as sharp in 2060 as it does the day we leave your property.
Our recommended approach on every single roof job — without exception — is a full tear-off installation. This is the Legacy standard, and it's rooted in a simple principle: a metal roof should be the last roof you ever install. If that's the goal, it makes sense to build it right from the very base layer. Removing the existing shingles exposes the deck, allowing us to inspect every board, replace any rot or damage, and build a complete roofing system that will outlast everything above it.
It's the only way to install full ice and water shield underlayment — the moisture barrier that protects your home at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations where ice damming causes the most damage. In Ontario's climate, this isn't a luxury. It's the difference between a roof that performs and one that eventually fails.
"We recommend a full tear-off with ice and water shield on every roof we install — standing seam and exposed fastener alike. Metal is a lifetime roof. Why build a lifetime roof on a foundation that isn't? This approach also lets us inspect and repair the deck before we close it up — which has saved more than a few clients from serious problems down the road."
* 25-year leak-free warranty requires full tear-off, ice & water shield, sound deck, adequate attic insulation, and proper ventilation. Insufficient attic insulation can cause ice damming — a building envelope issue not covered under the warranty. Full terms at legacy-warranty page and in your project agreement.
In the right circumstances, standing seam can be installed directly over existing shingles — a viable option that eliminates tear-off costs and reduces project time. We assess every roof individually before recommending this approach.
Over-shingle installation is only offered where we can confirm the existing roof is structurally sound, the shingle layer is flat and stable, and the deck below shows no signs of moisture damage. We won't recommend it where it isn't the right call — that's not how we operate.
It's a legitimate option that many of our clients choose. It simply comes with a different warranty structure, and we're upfront about that from the start.

Panels are secured directly through the face of the metal using screws fitted with neoprene washers — a straightforward system that installs efficiently and performs reliably for decades.
It's the most common metal roofing system on agricultural properties in Simcoe County, and for good reason. It's practical, cost-effective, and when installed properly it will outlast virtually any alternative — including asphalt shingles by a wide margin.
At Legacy, we install exposed fastener systems with the same care and attention we bring to our standing seam work. Our recommended approach on every roof — regardless of system — is a full tear-off with ice and water shield installed from the base up. A metal roof should be the last roof you ever install. If we're going to do it, we believe in doing it properly from the ground up — assessing the deck, fixing any rot, and building a complete system that will last a lifetime.
Barns, equipment sheds, drive sheds, and outbuildings. Exposed fastener is the industry standard for agricultural roofing in Ontario — proven, practical, and built to handle whatever the weather throws at it.
An excellent choice for homeowners who want the durability and longevity of metal roofing at a more accessible price point than standing seam. Available in a wide range of profiles and colours.
Detached garages, workshops, and storage buildings benefit from a metal roof that requires zero ongoing maintenance and will long outlast the structure it's covering.
Where the budget doesn't stretch to standing seam but you still want a metal roof that outperforms shingles. We'll be upfront about which system is the right fit for your project and your investment.
Exposed fastener gets a reputation as the "budget option" — but a budget system installed carelessly is still a budget system. The quality of the installation matters as much as the system itself.
At Legacy, we don't have a two-tier approach. Whether we're installing standing seam on a heritage property or exposed fastener on a drive shed, every job gets the same attention to detail. Panels are laid straight. Fasteners are driven to the correct torque — not over-driven, not under-driven. Trim work is clean and finished properly.
We've seen too many exposed fastener roofs fail early — not because of the system, but because of poor installation. Backing out screws, blown washers, improperly overlapped panels. That's not what we do.
Our recommended approach on every exposed fastener job is identical to our standing seam standard: full tear-off, full ice and water shield, deck inspection and repair where needed. Metal is a lifetime investment — it makes sense to build it on a foundation that matches that lifespan. We'll always present the full install as our first recommendation, and let you decide what's right for your budget.
